Growth.

Growth is a thing that most of us desire. In fact, its ubiquity as a common human pursuit can sometimes diminish the power of the word and endeavor altogether. But growth, whether physical, emotional, mental, or spiritual, is a valiant aspiration and something that should be celebrated. For the better part of 15 years, Dūrātus has been a training ground for those desiring growth in their lives. Want to get stronger; start lifting weights. Want better capacity; put in effort on your conditioning. Want to get your first pull up; start working the skill. Each and every day brings an opportunity for growth in some way or another. Being a part of this process for the many members that call Dūrātus their gym is one of the greatest privileges of my life. But let us never fall into the trap of “growth at all cost”, because not all pursuits of growth are good. Growth at the expense of ones’ health or integrity is simply not worth it. Our culture places a premium on upward mobility and highly rewards forward movement, and this too often entices people to disregard the means used to get to the end. Cutting corners, choosing the path of least resistance, conceding on values - while sometimes these options can lead to a new reality, none of them will ever produce lasting growth. I am certainly not saying that seeking growth is not a worthy goal, but I do think the journey by which one seeks is just as important (if not more important), than actually attaining the growth desired. The process is how we become moldable and the journey is where we become refined. My encouragement to us all…set audacious goals and pursue growth with fervor. Do so, not only as one who is disciplined, resolved, committed, and determined, but also as a person willing to put in the time and hold on to their

Galentine's Day Recap

On February 7th, we hosted our annual Galentine’s Day workout. Over the past 6 years, the women of Dūrātus have gathered to celebrate strength, resilience and friendship with a workout and a brunch. A big thank you to everyone that attended and made this day so special!

Trivia Night Recap

Dūrātus Trivia Night is quickly becoming one of our favorite traditions. For the second year, our community gathered for a highly competitive, highly fun night. Shoutout to all who showed up on January 23rd and for your robust trivia knowledge!

Help us (officially) welcome Coach Rana and Coach Christina.

Hey there everyone! I’m Rana. Born and raised in this area, I spent most of my primary school years in Medical Lake. I graduated in 2001, got some college out of the way and began building my family. My bride, Bekah, and I have six kids and try to enjoy the things this life has to offer with them. We enjoy this area and can’t really see us being able to call another place home. I’ve enjoyed sports my entire life, from middle/high school football to mountain biking, backpacking, climbing, water sports and hunting. As I’ve moved through life my perspective on physical fitness has adapted and developed. Lately I’ve been having fun coaching my son’s football teams and powerlifting. Whether your focus is to be a CF Games competitor, get in the best shape of your life, function well at work or simply pick up your grandchildren, I’m looking forward to helping you reach your goals!
Hey everyone, I am Christina! I moved out to Spokane this past summer from the other side of the country! Dūrātus was my first and last stop when searching for gyms in the area! Kevin and the team welcomed me immediately, and I knew I had found my new community. I have been a CrossFit coach since 2012, back on the East Coast, and have since coached Strength and Conditioning for a variety of groups, including the military, first responders, college athletes, and many others. I have spent the last twenty years in the military and have traveled all around, but the community at Dūrātus is second to none. The coaches are well-versed and experienced across many modalities, and the community has been incredible since Day 1. I have only been officially coaching here since January, but I look forward to spending more time within the Dūrātus family, so please say hello if you see me hanging around!
Though she is not a new face, Coach Erin has recently stepped into an administrative position at Dūrātus. Please feel free to reach out to her with any questions you may have, or suggestions on how we can continue to make the gym a welcoming place for all.

Coming up... The Crossfit Open

The Crossfit Open begins this week! We will program the Open workouts every Friday for the next three weeks. Whether or not you are signed up for the Open, we find benefit in everyone doing the workouts together on a dedicated day so we can share in that communal experience. Additionally, we will have coaches ready to help strategize and judge during the Friday afternoon OG. We are looking forward to supporting and encouraging all that are going to crush the Open this year!

Murph Prep

As the winter begins to thaw, it can only mean one thing… time for Murph prep! For those who do not know, Murph is an annual workout performed on Memorial Day, to honor the life of Navy Lieutenant Michael P. Murphy. The workout consists of: 1 mile run 100 pull ups 200 push ups 300 air squats 1 mile run You will begin to see high volume pull ups, push ups and squats integrated into our programming so that we can be prepared to tackle Murph. Along with honoring the life of Lieutenant Murphy, we like partaking in the tradition of Murph for a number of reasons… It serves as a test of mental toughness to see if you can keep moving when things get uncomfortable. Murph is a cardiovascular and muscular endurance gauntlet. Many athletes use it as an annual benchmark to see how their fitness has progressed year-over-year. It is a great way for our gym to gather and do hard things, together. Mark your calendars for May 25th for our annual Murph event. Details to come.
